Privacy Policy
Sightline ("the app", "we", "us") is a personal privacy scanning tool that helps you detect Bluetooth-enabled camera glasses and hidden-camera devices in your environment. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.
1. Data We Collect
Data stored only on your device (never transmitted):
- Bluetooth scan results. Raw advertisement packets observed during scanning are matched against known signatures and then discarded. Only matched detections (device name, manufacturer ID, signal strength, and timestamp) are stored locally in the app's private database.
- Encounter history. Each detection event is saved locally so you can review it later. This data remains on your device and is deleted when you clear app data or uninstall the app.
- Approximate location. On Android, Bluetooth scanning requires the location permission. If you grant it, the OS may associate a coarse location with each detection for the encounter map feature. This data is stored locally only.
- App preferences. Settings such as notification preferences and Pro unlock status are stored locally.
Data transmitted to our servers (optional features):
- Signature updates. The app periodically checks our server for updated device signature lists. This request contains no personal information — only a version number.
- Community reports (Pro, opt-in). If you choose to flag a suspicious device, a report is submitted containing: a random device identifier, approximate signal strength, device name (if any), and a timestamp. Reports contain no account information, no precise location, and no identifiers tied to you personally.
We do not collect: your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, precise GPS coordinates, or any account information. The app does not require you to create an account.
2. Third-Party SDKs
- Google AdMob (free tier). Displays ads in the free version. AdMob may collect a device advertising ID and app activity data to serve contextual ads. You can opt out via your device's ad settings. AdMob's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Play Billing / Apple StoreKit. In-app purchases are processed entirely by Google or Apple. We receive only a confirmation token and never see your payment details.
- Firebase Hosting & Storage. Our static files (signature updates) are served from Firebase. Firebase may log standard server-side request metadata (IP address, timestamp, bytes transferred). These logs are not linked to individual users and are used solely for abuse prevention and capacity planning.
3. How We Use Data
- Provide and improve detection accuracy.
- Deliver signature and model updates.
- Aggregate anonymous community reports to identify newly released surveillance devices.
- Diagnose crashes and improve app stability (crash reporter, if enabled by your platform).
4. Data Retention
Local data (encounter history, preferences) is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app. Community report data on our servers is retained in aggregated form indefinitely; individual report records may be purged after 12 months. Server request logs are retained for up to 90 days.
5. Your Rights
Because we do not collect identifiable personal information, there is typically no account-linked data to retrieve, correct, or delete. If you submitted a community report and wish to request its removal, contact us at mail@applabs.llc with a description of the report. We will make reasonable efforts to locate and delete it.
Residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, California, and other jurisdictions with data-protection laws may have additional rights. Contact us if you have questions about how those laws apply to your use of Sightline.
6. Children
Sightline is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Security
Local data is stored in your device's private app storage and is not accessible to other apps. Data transmitted to our servers is encrypted in transit using TLS. Signature files are integrity-verified with a SHA-256 hash before being applied.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notice.
